Landscape urbanism and landscape architecture become a global issue of growing interest, where landscape urbanism provides
new ways of rebuilding cities and new ways of using old infrastructure. Landscape urbanism emphasizes the integration of natural, structural, cultural and infrastructural layers of urban space, and proposes a review of existing planning models. Contemporary landscape architecture explains an overview of the development of landscape architecture during the twentieth century - as the origin of contemporary landscape thoughts, with special emphasis on the role of landscape architecture in urban planning and urban transformation processes of the 21st century. Through the analysis of examples, the processes that lasted from the 1980s since the landscape architecture gained new significance and new role in the transformation of cities, are shown.
The aim of the course is to present to students the contemporary world landscape architecture by considering it as an indivisible part of urban planning and architectural design. Through an analysis of the examples and the seminar work students critically evaluate relevant sources and recent examples of landscape architecture. The knowledge gained in this course is applied in projects made in urban, landscape and architectural workshops of graduate studies.
